Last week, several teachers from the English Department had the pleasure of taking our Language Assistant, Madhu, on a special tour of Cartagena. It was a fantastic opportunity to share our local culture and history with her.
We started by strolling along the wonderful marina, enjoying the sea breeze, before admiring some of the city’s most iconic Modernist buildings. We also visited the impressive Roman Theatre and the Old Cathedral, stepping back in time to explore the city’s roots. To get the best perspective, we walked up to Parque Torres, where we admired the stunning beauty of the natural bay.
Of course, no visit to Cartagena is complete without gastronomy! After tasting some typical tapas, we headed to the mythical Calle Santa Florentina to try the famous Asiático coffee.
It was a brilliant afternoon of linguistic immersion and cultural exchange. Madhu wanted to share her own thoughts on the experience:
Hello my name is Madhu and I am currently an auxiliar at Dos Mares Secondary School. I recently went on an outing with some of the other teachers which was a fun time! They picked me up and we drove to Cartagena where they took me to some popular tapas spots where we had croquetas, patatas bravas and other popular dishes. They also showed me around the city and took me to the popular sights to see such as the Roman amphitheater. It was very kind of them to organize this outing for me and I had a wonderful time getting to know everyone outside of school!
We are already looking forward to our next getaway! Our next destination will be the city of Murcia, where we plan to enjoy the magnificent Christmas lights.
